KOTA BARU: Mentri Besar Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat has said “no” to a debate on the Ninth Malaysia Plan (9MP) on RTM’s weekly Debat Perdana programme.
Information Minister Datuk Zainuddin Maidin had invited him to give his views on the 9MP through an Islamic perspective during a recent visit here at the suggestion of Kelantan Umno chief Datuk Seri Annuar Musa.
Nik Aziz said the subject was vague, adding that he would agree to debate on issues of his own choosing, such as on the policies and spiritual beliefs in the country.
He said the 9MP was just a long-term development plan, accompanied by stated funding, visions and missions.
He added that this was the usual practice of any country that aspired to progress.
The issue of spiritual beliefs and religious practices was more relevant, he said.
“It is like this. I am willing to debate with anyone, whether the Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi), Zainuddin or Annuar, in their house or at the homes of third parties.
“Even in open fields, I am willing to meet and debate and RTM should telecast it live without any censorship.”
