Pas Wishes To Meet Mahathir

KUALA LUMPUR, May 18 (Bernama) -- Pas has expressed a wish to see former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to discuss several political issues related to the interest of the country.

A member of the Pas Central Working Committee, Mahfuz Omar, said a letter on the matter has been sent to the Premier Leadership Foundation in Putrajaya and it will be up to Dr Mahathir to decide on the date and venue of the meeting.

"I hope Tun (Dr Mahathir) would be able to allocate some time for the meeting," he told reporters at the Taman Melewar Post Office in Gombak here, Thursday.

He said Pas wanted to hear directly what Dr Mahathir had to say on several issues such as the distribution of the Approved Permits (AP) for the import of cars, Proton's problem, the cancellation of the bridge project and on the freedom of the press.

"I believe Tun (Dr Mahathir) would not hesitate to share (his opinions)," he said, adding that several non governmental organisations (NGOs) would be also joining in at the meeting, if Dr Mahathir agreed to it.

He said Pas also hoped to see former Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and former Finance Minister Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah to discuss the political directions of the country.
