KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 14 (Bernama) -- Water tariff in the Klang Valley will be raised by 15 per cent, Energy, Water and Communications Minister Datuk Seri Dr Lim Keng Yaik announced Saturday.

He, however, gave an assurance the increase would not be a burden to the low-income group who accounted for 42 per cent of the populace in the Klang Valley.

The proposed hike was agreed upon at Wednesday's weekly cabinet meeting, he told reporters after chairing Gerakan's central working committee meeting.

Dr Lim, who is also Gerakan president, said the effective date of the new tariff structure would be announced by the Selangor Government soon.
